All aspects of the cassette are as handmade as can be: design is done in-house, j-card & label printing are done in my home studio, and tapes are mastered and duplicated on a Tascam deck and a 1983 Recordex Messenger 310, respectively.

Ah man, here is a release I’m super excited about. Lauren and I have been penpal-ish friends since she bought a zine of mine in a used bookstore in Tacoma a few years back, and I’ve followed her music career since. When I was putting together Dreamlife, she seemed like a natural fit, and she liked being on the cassette so much she approached me with a new project, an EP of new blues songs (and one standard) she made with her bud and constant tourmate, Vic Ruggiero, frontman of the ska/reggae act The Slackers. The result is one of my favorite releases of the year, The Desert Echoes, four songs written with so much power and soul that they could fairly be called poetry, with lauren’s smokey voice uplifted by vic’s expressive vocals, guitar and harmonica playfully filling out the spaces between.
